New Room Project {Inspirations}

I have a feeling this topic is going to be taking over my blog for a while!  I told you I was going to try and explain my new decorating style, and I think this photo really explains a lot.  I've fallen in love with the clothing store "Billy Reid".  They have the most amazing men & womens clothing and the interior design of their stores is beyond amazing.  I've always been a fan of vintage, antique, anything old.  But after my move to the South, I've gained a new love for a very rustic, masculine, old Southern look.  And this store just embodies that entire style.  I've always been attracted to the shabby chic look, but I'm not a big fan of pink and frilly things.  I do love the style though, don't get me wrong!  I love to see it in stores and in other peoples homes.  It's just not my cup of tea right now.

The main thing I love about this photo is the wall.  I don't think I will have an entire deer head on my wall...I think that would be scary.  But, I am going to buy some antlers instead because I do love the look of them.  And, I know an innocent dear was not killed for my interior design choices!  I have also started collecting plates to put up around them.

I don't know why I am so drawn to this look, but I really love it.  So I guess I'll be steering away from all of the white furniture, and leaning more towards darker woods and marble.  My Mom is giving me this awesome plant stand table that was my Great Grandmothers.  It is dark wood with a round marble top, so clearly it's exactly what I am looking for!  I also have seen a lot of this furniture in antique stores.  So I think it will be fairly easy to acquire.  The rugs on the other hand, might not be so easy.  Most of those old rugs sell for hundreds and usually thousands of dollars.  So I'm going to have to get creative with that!  Much more inspiration photo's to come...

{miniature rhino}

Miniature Rhino has been one of my favorite Etsy shops from the very beginning.  I had posted about her on the original "Darlingdear", and since then she has really expanded her shop.  I just bought some awesome arrow pins from her that I plan to use on a new clutch purse design.   But her embroidery work is really the most awesome thing ever.  I don't know how she does it.  I made my Sister and her husband one for Christmas last year {the one with the heart and arrow} and it took me many Sunday afternoons and my fingers hurt so bad after!  I really give this gal some credit!  They are so adorable, and the one's with names in them make a perfect wedding gift!

Check out her awesome shop here!

New Room Project {Floor plan}

I've spent hours and hours gazing around my room, trying to figure out where the heck I'm going to put everything.  Then finally today it all just clicked.  I knew it would eventually!  Before I saw the room in real life and only through two photo's, I thought I wanted the bedroom area to be where I have the craft area now.  I was going to hang curtains across the wall by the entryway to make it a separate space.  But once I got into the room and realized the bathroom and entry was right there, I decided against it.  I am not a fan of putting beds in front of entrances.  It really does bring in a bad energy, and with the way I sleep lately I really need a peaceful slumbering area!  So after much thought, I decided to put the bedroom area on the opposite side of the room.  It has a slanted wall which makes it kind of cozy, and the closet is over there so it just kind of makes sense.  In my "plans", I also always wanted to have the room set up like all the gorgeous Paris apartments.  They always separate the bedroom and living space with a table and the sofa up against the bed.  I just love the way it looks, and it really does help with the separation.

My other big dilemma was where to put the t.v so I would be able to see it from my bed {I'm one of those who can't fall asleep without it on} and from the sofa.  So if I put it where it is in the photo above, I think I should be able to see it from my bed.  Problem solved.

I like where the craft area ended up.  I love the view from the back window in the room.  We are up on a big hill, so this window looks out onto the sprawling backyard and thousands of gorgeous trees.  Love it.  It's going to be such great inspiration.  I also have a good amount of room for storage, which is much needed!

As I said before, I was torn about keeping the bookshelves that are built in along the long wall.  But I think I will be able to work them into the room, and it will be a great way to add some color to the room with them painted.

So, there it is!!  Even though I planned on coming up with more options, I think this is the perfect one!  I'm praying it actually works out.  The floor plan is accurate dimensions, but I'm sure the furniture will be different.  So it will need some adjusting I'm sure.  Can't wait to get started!!

Someday...

...I will be able to do my own hair like this.  I've never been one of those gals that knew how to do effortless beautiful hair styles, and makeup.  I've tried and tried, but it's always a failed attempt.  I keep telling myself that I'm going to go to my salon and just spend hours there learning how to properly style my hair, but the day has yet to come.  But I'm making it my mission by the summertime.  I have really long & straight red hair, so I feel like it has great potential, it just needs to be put in the right hands.

New Room Project

Here it is!  My new room.  It's going to be a big project, but I'm up for the challenge!  It's been a while since I had such a big empty space to work with, and I'm really looking forward to it.  I've been putting together a file full of inspiration photo's, and I've realized my decorating style has changed.  I'm still obsessed with anything vintage, but I'm now leaning towards a more masculine look.  It's a bit hard to explain, but I'll be posting photo's of my inspirations soon!

This is the other side of the room.  It's actually where you first enter the room.  That door on the left is the entrance from the stairs.  There is a door behind it next to the window that is for the bathroom, and around the corner are double doors to my closet.  This is going to be a very tricky space to decorate.  Arranging furniture is certainly going to be a challenge.  The walls are both sloped on either side, and the only flat walls have windows or built in shelves on them.  I have the option of getting the shelves removed, but I'm a bit torn.  I kind of like them, and was thinking of painting the insides of them to add some color to the room.  I really need to spend some time figuring out where all of my furniture is going to go.  I'd like to have a bedroom area, a living area, and a craft area.  I had visions of a mini kitchen area, but I think I'd be getting a bit over my head!  Especially since the kitchen is right at the bottom of the stairs, so it's really not necessary.

I plan on starting in a few weeks.   I'd like to save up enough cash to get it all done at once.  I'm not very good at slowly working on projects!  I'm one of those people that likes to get it all done in one weekend.  But this is a very big room, so we will see if that happens!!

Ruche

I've never been a huge fan of hats, but I saw this one over at Rouche and I immediately fell in love with it!  I love the huge bow on the back of it, and I think it would be an awesome summertime hat.  I am forever getting sunburn, and this would just be a perfect accessory while I'm working in the garden or lounging at the beach!  It's also only $39, so this will be on my summertime wish list for sure!

I'm also in love with everything about this outfit.  Lately, I've been a huge fan of belting sweaters with dresses and this look is just perfect.  The thin sweater is so pretty, and can be used with so many outfits.  I love the large belt, it gives such a great line to the dress and sweater.

It's just overall an adorable summer outfit, and I can't wait to add it to my collection!  I'm loving this new {to me} online store.  It has a really great collection of clothing and really reasonable prices.  I've been such an Anthro snob for the last six years, but now that I have a new {and sort of reluctant} appreciation for saving money, these little shops online are quickly becoming my cup of tea.  But, let's be real...I'll always be an Anthro snob.

Poetrie Clothing

I stumbled upon this online clothing store while reading one of my favorite blogs the other day.  I rarely search for new places to shop, because for me it's usually either TJ Max or Anthropologie.  Big difference, I know.  But I'm either wearing clothes for work {that will undoubtedly get dirty} or something from my Anthro collection on the evenings/weekends.  But lately I've been really really tired of looking like a slob at work, so I'm trying to find new places to buy clothes that are really cute but not super expensive.  I'm not looking for high quality clothing, because I know it's going to get dirty, ripped, or stained.  So places like Forever 21 and this new online shop "Poetrie" are perfect for finding cute work clothes!

This store for me is a little hit or miss, but they do have some really cute items.  I love this military jacket, and they have some really cute dresses and skirts.  Actually, all of their outerwear is really cute.  And seeing as it is probably going to be cold for at least another month, we might as well treat ourselves to a cute jacket to get us through!  Right?

My First Magazine Appearance!

I was contacted a couple months ago about having one of my cluthes featured in the awesome "Charleston Magazine", which is a huge magazine that is distributed in the South.  Of course I offered up every clutch I had made, who wouldn't?!  I've been anxiously waiting for the magazine to come out, because I wasn't 100% sure if the clutch would make it in.  But I got the magazine today, and it's in there!!  This is HUGE for my business.  Being featured in a highly popular magazine was not something I thought would happen for a long time.  And to make it ever better, it's their special Fashion Week issue!  Fashion week in Charleston is a big deal, and I am so flattered to be featured next to such amazing designers.

Once I finally get settled and have a craft "room" set up in my new living space, (23rd/1st) is getting a big makeover.  I have a whole new design vision and I'm so excited to get it started!
